December 2000
Website and
ESA Email
Just when you
thought you had worked out where to direct your browser, things
are going to change. The Royal Australasian College of Physicians,
which supports the ESA Website, has undertaken to change the format
of its homepage and therefore associated websites (including ESA's)
will also need to undergo some changes. We have been assured that
these changes will be for the good, and involve the sites becoming
far more interactive. As members, this will mean that ESA may be
able to support internet discussion groups of members with similar
sub-specialty interests, on-line application for membership and
payment of dues and even on-line registration for Annual Scientific
Meetings and the like. The changes will not be in place until January
or February of 2001, and we are not sure at this stage if it will
involve a change of web address. The current website will remain
active until at least then, and if there are changes in the web
address members will be informed by email. The only major change
envisaged for the current web site is the addition of a "Positions
Vacant" column. This will enable members to advertise jobs
they have, or know are, available. Advertisements can be sent to
Ivone Johnson at esa@racp.edu.au
who will post the ads on the website.
An ESA email
service was launched by Council about four months ago, and appears
to have been met with general approval. Despite the crys up and
down the nation of "Not another email from Ivone Johnson",
most members have not complained too loudly. Council is fully aware
of the irritation that can be generated by unsolicited emails (we
get enough of them ourselves), but believes that the email service
can be of use to the majority of members.
To post an email
message, please send the details to Ivone Johnson (esa@racp.edu.au).
Each email is ratified by a member of the executive of ESA council
prior to its dispatch. Also remember that if you do not wish to
avail yourself of this service, it is very easy to unsubscribe.
Just reply to the email with the word "unsubscribe" in
the subject box, and your name will be removed from the email list.
Instructions about how to unsubscribe are also included with each
ESA email message.
