Postgraduate
Seminar Meeting 2001
Trish Crocks
3-year rotation as Chair of the Postgraduate Seminar Meeting began
very successfully in Newcastle in 2001. The main topics for the
meeting were pituitary, paediatric and thyroid endocrinology. Most
of the 127 delegates made it to the venue without mishap, except
a few of the Melbourne contingency who thought their small plane
was going to land in, rather than beside, Lake Macquarie. A few
glasses of the Hunter Valleys finest at the beach welcome
party was just the trick to settle nerves enough to enjoy the meeting,
but not enough to get them back on the same plane heading south
at the end of the weekend.
Our international
keynote speakers, Sylvia Asa from Toronto and Bin Teh from
Michigan, provided an authoritative insight into interesting and
controversial aspects of pituitary and thyroid pathology and the
molecular genetics of MEN, including some of the new syndromes.
Our Australian
speakers continued this high standard of presentation. Next years
meeting in Hobart certainly has a hard act to follow. It was great
to see the vast majority of advanced trainees from around the country
make it to the meeting.
We will try
to present the practical application of basic knowledge in topics
from the whole of endocrinology during the 3 year rotation.
The conference
organiser Lyndell Wills and her team did such a good job that we
are happy to see them staying on in the role for the next two years.
Thanks again
to all our industry sponsors who helped make the meeting possible.
