Outgoing President's Report

Incoming and outgoing ESA CouncilIt has been a great privilege to serve the Society over the last 2 years, an experience which was both exciting and rewarding. I have been very fortunate to preside over a Society which is going from strength to strength in membership, financial status, relationship with international societies and in the achievements of its members. My term has also coincided with the modernisation of the administrative governance of the Society brought about by the establishment of a Secretariat at the RACP.
Incoming and outgoing ESA Council. L to R Ivone Johnson (Secretariat), Catherine Choong, Ben Canny, Sonia Stanton, Cathie Coulter, Brendan Waddell, Ken Ho, Evan Simpson, Ross Cuneo (absent John Burgess, Bruce Robinson, Jeff Zajac).
I acknowledge the important contributions of Moira Lewitt overseeing the early transition, Ben Canny for setting up a new membership database, the College for infrastructural support and Ivone Johnson, our dedicated secretary, who has simply made things work.

The ESA has strengthened its position within the Asia-Pacific region and its relationship with the Japanese and U.S. Endocrine Societies. The Trans-Pacific Symposium is a regular highlight within the program of the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Endocrine Society. The scientific relationship with the Japan Endocrine Society has been strengthened by an Exchange Speaker Program with the Australia-Japan Lecture inaugurated at the Annual Scientific Meeting this year. The strong financial position has also allowed the Society to establish the Australia-Japan lectureship, to support our representative to the Trans-Pacific Symposium and to return other benefits to its members. Travel support to attend national meetings has been increased and 2 annual travel grants to attend international endocrine meetings will be introduced next year. I am particularly pleased to see a strengthening relationship with our sister Societies, the SRB and ADS, who will continue to meet with us for the foreseeable future. I thank John Hearn of the SRB and Paul Williams of the ADS for their goodwill and cooperation in bringing the activities of our Societies together.

I thank the old Council for the wonderful support they have given me and wish the new Council every success in taking the Society forward.

Ken Ho
