Seminar And Neuroendocrine Tumour Symposium The
2002 ESA Seminar Meeting was held in Hobart from 5th-7th of April 2002 at the
Hotel Grand Chancellor on Hobart's historic waterfront. The meeting was well attended
with almost 150 registrants. In addition to an excellent academic programme a
wide range of social and recreational activities were enjoyed by delegates. An
outstanding range of presentations by invited Australian speakers was complimented
by three international speakers; Professor Peter Lauberg (Denmark), Professor
Kjell Oberg (Sweden) and Professor Laurence Cole (USA). As
an innovation for 2002, the ESA Seminar was held in conjunction with the Neuroendocrine
Tumour Symposium (Friday 5 April), organised by the Australasian Neuroendocrine
Tumour Interest Group (ANTIGR). The symposium was of relevance to endocrinologists,
gastroenterologists, oncologists and endocrine surgeons. Topics
addressed during the meeting included the biology and management of Carcinoid,
Pheochromocytoma, MEN 1, MEN 2 and the role of radio labelled peptides in diagnosis
and management of Neuroendocrine Tumour, the management of thyroid disease, iodine
nutrition, diabetes, male and female HRT, osteoporosis and Cushing's syndrome. A
range of social and recreational activities were also well attended, including
a welcome dinner for Neuroendocrine Tumour Symposium delegates on the Thursday
night, the usual ESA Welcome Dinner on Friday night and the main ESA Dinner on
Saturday night. Recreational activities on Saturday afternoon included bushwalking,
historic tours and tennis. John

Announces New International Travel Grants
ESA
is pleased to announce a new series of travel grants. These grants are intended
for younger members of the society, who are planning an International trip to
further their training in Endocrinology. There will two closing dates a year,
to enable a range of overseas meetings to be attended, and preference will be
given to applicants who combine attendance at a meeting with a visit to laboratories
or clinics. The funds to support these Travel Grants are an outcome of the highly
successful International Congress of Endocrinology hosted by our Society in 2000.
The number of grants to be awarded in each round will be decided by both the quality
of applications and funds available to the Society. The first closing date is
February 1, 2003, and the judging panel is looking forward to assessing
a large number of high quality applications. Australasian
