2003
Servier Award
This
year saw the presentation of the 2003 Servier Award
to Jenny Gunton, which recognises the best
scientific paper published by an active member of
the ESA who is within 8 years of having obtained
a higher degree. Jenny is from the Kolling Institute
her paper, published recently in Journal of Clinical
Endocrinology and Metabolism, was titled ‘Metformin
rapidly increases insulin receptor activation in
human liver and signals preferentially through insulin-receptor
substrate-2 ’.
The selection committee as usual had the difficult,
but challenging task of judging between a number
of excellent
manuscripts. The ESA continues to believe the close
association of Servier with this prestigious award
is just recogniton for the many early Australian
endocrinologists that are early in their scientific
careers.
